[02-02-2022] Gregg County, TX – Commercial Business Fire Damages Texas Spine & Joint Hospital in Longview

The Longview Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at the Texas Spine & Joint Hospital facility at 725 North 4th St. in Longview on Tuesday, February 2.

The Longview Fire Department responded to a commercial business fire at approximately 4:45 a.m. at 725 North Fourth Street, Texas Spine, and Joint Clinic.

The initial call was for glass breakage, which could indicate a possible burglary in progress, but when Longview police arrived, they discovered the building was on fire.

According to fire crews, the fire started in a rear electrical/mechanical room in an electrical cabinet that contained multiple batteries to operate as emergency backup power for the sensitive equipment on-premise, then spread to the attic. A second alarm was immediately sounded to increase the response of additional fire crews.

The fire was put out in about 20 minutes, but not before extensive heat and smoke damage had been done to the structure. The structure was vacant at the time of the fire.

According to Fire Marshal May, after the fire was extinguished, a civilian employee who had responded to the scene sustained a minor injury.

Four fire engines, two ladder trucks, one ambulance, and four support vehicles were dispatched by the Longview Fire Department.

The fire had nothing to do with the hospital. It happened at one of Longview’s freestanding outpatient MRI units. No patients were involved, according to Jess Mowery, the clinic’s regional director of marketing and clinic operations.

The cause is unknown at this time, but department investigators are on the scene gathering information.
