A 25-year-old man identified as Javier Edgardo Castro R. was killed after a multi-vehicle collision in Salado on early Tuesday morning, August 3.
The major accident transpired at approximately 6:30 a.m. on FM 2483 near Interstate 35 in Salado. Three vehicles were involved in the collision. An eastbound 2008 Dodge pickup truck reportedly veered into the westbound lanes for unclear reasons and struck a 2006 Nissan pickup truck and a 2010 Toyota passenger car.
Due to the severity of the impact, the Toyota was pushed off the roadway and landed into a water-filled ditch. Unfortunately, a passenger in the Toyota sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Toyota driver, a passenger in the Nissan, and the Dodge driver were all taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries. Additional details about the crash are unavailable at the moment. An investigation of the accident is currently underway.
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics
Millions of people are injured in automobile accidents on American roads every year, and tens of thousands of drivers and passengers are killed in crashes. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation, there were 33,654 fatal vehicle crashes in 2018, resulting in 36,560 deaths.
Multi-vehicle accidents are only one type of car accident. When three or more cars are involved in an accident, this type of accident occurs. They are frequently caused by a “chain-reaction” crash, in which one vehicle collides with another, potentially causing it to collide with other cars on the road.
Texas currently has the highest number of traffic fatalities in the country. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 19,506 serious injury crashes in 2019, with 30,992 people seriously injured. In addition, 3,722 people were killed in motor vehicles.
