A construction worker was killed after an accident involving multiple vehicles on Eastex Freeway on Tuesday morning, August 10.
The accident transpired at approximately 10:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Eastex Freeway near Tram Road in Beaumont. Two construction workers from the Texas Department of Transportation were struck by passing vehicles. At least three pickup trucks were suspected to be involved in the crash.
The two construction workers were immediately taken to Beaumont hospital to receive emergency treatment. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to their injuries and died at the hospital. The circumstances leading up to the fatal crash have not been established.
The construction site the workers were in was part of a widening project that started back in July 2019. The project aims to widen the highway from two to three lanes and is expected to finish by 2022.
Additional information about the accident is unavailable at the moment. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed. An investigation of the crash is currently underway. Authorities will determine the factors and the liability in the accident.
