Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics
Every day, car accidents occur on U.S. highways. Because cars are so common in our lives, drivers frequently overlook how dangerous they can become and how severe, even fatal, car accidents can occur. Preliminary estimates from the National Safety Council show that in 2019, an estimated 38,800 individuals lost their lives to car crashes. Additionally, another 4.4 million estimated individuals were injured severely enough to require medical attention.
Multi-vehicle collisions are just one type of car accident. This type of accident usually occurs when three or more cars are involved in the accident. They commonly stem from a “chain-reaction” crash, wherein one vehicle will bump into another, potentially causing it to crash into other cars on the roadway. Multi-vehicle collisions are commonly caused by drunk driving, speeding, and distracted driving.
