Two people were killed after a major two-vehicle collision in Corpus Christi on late Tuesday night, August 17.
The accident transpired at approximately 10:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway 77, around 27 miles south of Sarita. A truck was traveling southbound on U.S. 77. Meanwhile, a Chevrolet Tahoe was towing a utility trailer that was parked on the shoulder after running out of gas.
The truck veered off the roadway for unclear reasons and crashed into the parked Tahoe, hitting the driver. The tractor then overturned due to the severity of the impact and caught fire, trapping the driver inside.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was later identified as 48-year-old Fernando B. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, a passenger in the Tahoe was transported to Spohn Kleberg Hospital in Kingsville for treatment.
The truck driver was also killed in the crash. The identity of the truck driver has not been disclosed. Local authorities are further investigating the cause of the accident.
