One person was killed while two others were injured after a two-vehicle collision in South Loop and Slide Road on early Thursday morning, August 19.
According to the initial reports from local authorities, the collision took place at South Loop 289 and Slide Road at approximately 12:45 a.m. A Ford F-150 was initially traveling southbound in the 6100 block of Slide Road. Meanwhile, a Grand Jeep Cherokee was heading westbound in the 5100 blocks of the S. Loop 289 access road.
The pickup then crashed into the Jeep at the intersection for unclear reasons. How the accident occurred, and the reason why it happened have not been established. A passenger inside the Jeep was fatally injured in the mishap.
She was identified as 17-year-old Kashara J. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, a pedestrian that was walking around the area was struck by the debris in the initial crash. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The Jeep driver sustained moderate injuries from the mishap and was immediately taken to University Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the pickup attempted to flee the scene but was later apprehended by authorities. He was identified as 30-year-old Timothy Andrew G.
He was taken into custody behind Crunch Fitness and was booked at Lubbock County Detention Center for intoxication manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid, and evading. The case is currently under further investigation.
