One woman was killed while another was injured after a multi-vehicle traffic collision on Hempstead Road on Sunday morning, September 12.
The deadly multi-vehicle collision transpired at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Hempstead Road near West 43rd Street. A Chrysler sedan rear-ended a red Ford pickup truck that was disabled on the roadway. A maroon Dodge pickup then rear-ended the Chrysler. It’s unclear what caused the Chrysler sedan to crash into the red Ford pickup truck.
The backseat passenger in the Chrysler was killed in the mishap. She was identified as Shannon D. Meanwhile, the front seat passenger, April Ward, was rushed to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
The driver of the Chrysler did not stop to render aid and reportedly fled the scene after the crash. Information about the Chrysler driver’s identity and location has not been disclosed. Local authorities are currently investigating the case and are actively looking for the whereabouts of the Chrysler driver.
