The crash took place in the 14300 block of Ella Boulevard between Kuykendahl Road and Rushworth Drive at around 7:45 a.m. The little girl reportedly ran across the street outside of a marked crosswalk when an oncoming SUV suddenly struck her.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrian accidents across the country have been on the rise over the last 33 years. There are several reasons why pedestrian accidents continue to increase at an alarming rate, mainly because pedestrians are more susceptible to road hazards than passengers in enclosed vehicles. The federal road safety agency NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) found that 5,900 pedestrians were killed in the United States in 2016.
The number of pedestrian fatalities in Texas increased substantially between 2010 and 2016 from just 273 in 2010 to 1238 in 2016. In the last two decades, the number of pedestrian deaths has almost doubled. In 2019, there were 5,975 pedestrian crashes in Texas and 669 deaths, up 5 percent compared with the previous year. Another 1,317 people were severely injured due to the explosion.
