The crash occurred at around 10:58 p.m. Saturday, on Interstate 20 near mile marker 513.
A Toyota Highlander was slammed from behind by a black Dodge Ram pickup truck as it halted for traffic following a white Ford F-250 ramming the Dodge Ram pickup truck from behind.
Due to a prior collision, four cars going east on Interstate 20 began to slow. The Highlander was forced into another car in the first collision, although that vehicle sustained no serious damage.
One of the three occupants of the Highlander was taken to a local hospital, while the back passenger, a 13-year-old child, was declared dead at the spot.
No other individual in any other vehicles suffered any significant injuries. The accident investigation is still continuing.
