As the man exited his disabled vehicle, possibly to check the issue, he was then struck by a passing Nissan Rogue. Unfortunately, the unidentified Chevy driver sustained fatal injuries in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unclear whether the other driver sustained any injuries from the mishap. Information about the accident is limited at the moment. Local authorities are further investigating the case.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
When a car comes into contact with a pedestrian, the consequences can be devastating. Pedestrians are completely unprotected from the dangers on the road. There are no airbags, seatbelts, or metal structures to protect pedestrians, unlike people inside cars.
Texas is not a friendly state for pedestrians. The vast majority of Texans choose to travel by car to get where they need to go. Thus, most roads are constructed with automobiles in mind, rather than people walking along the roadway. On the other hand, drivers in Texas aren’t used to sharing the road with pedestrians or watching out for people who are crossing at the intersection.
Texas saw a 5% increase in pedestrian-involved traffic crashes in 2019, totaling 5,975 and killing 669 people. The explosion also critically injured 1,317 other people. Even if you don’t intend to file a lawsuit, you should schedule a consultation with a Texas pedestrian accident lawyer if you or a loved one was hit by a car in Texas.
