Fatal Bicycle Accident Statistics
For short city excursions, nothing beats riding a bike. It’s affordable, safe, and easy to use. It is an unfortunate reality that bicyclists are among the most vulnerable road users. In 2019, 843 bicyclists were killed in car-bicycle collisions.
There were 16,807 bicycle collisions in Texas between 2010 and 2016, resulting in 9,769 injuries, 5,646 potential injuries, and 362. According to statistics, bicyclists under the age of 25 account for 13% of those injured in collisions.
Bicycle accidents are caused by careless driving, such as texting, speeding, driving while intoxicated, or falling asleep behind the wheel. Because bicycles are so flimsy and unstable compared to cars, bicyclists can easily sustain life-altering injuries. Head injuries account for more than 75% of all serious injuries and deaths in bicycle accidents.
