One pedestrian identified as a 45-to-50-year-old African American male was killed in an auto-pedestrian crash in Houston on Saturday, December 4, 2021.
The tragic accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the 9100 block of Scott Street near Reed Road.
The incident report revealed that a woman was robbed at gunpoint at the hands of a group of men who stole her purse and black Ford pickup truck.
According to the Houston Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite, the woman called her dealership after her vehicle had been stolen, and the dealership turned on her tracking system and helped her locate the truck, which she then reported to the police.
According to Satterwhite, when police arrived at the stolen truck’s location, they found five people inside, who fled in the car when they saw police.
The officers involved in the pursuit stated that they “needed help” after they “lost control of their vehicle” and drove onto a sidewalk, hitting a pedestrian.
The pedestrian victim was given CPR, but at approximately 5:49 p.m., the victim was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has yet to be disclosed.
The police officers who fatally struck the man were about 25 years old and have been on the force for less than two years.
Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Accident Statistics

One thousand two hundred eleven serious injuries and 731 deaths resulted from collisions involving pedestrians in 2020, an increase of nine percent over the previous year.
Pedestrians who fail to yield the right of way to vehicles; driver inattention and failure to yield the right of way; and speeding are among the most common causes of pedestrian traffic accidents in Texas.
In 2016, there were 5,900 pedestrian fatalities in the United States, according to the NHTSA.
Pedestrian accidents accounted for 10% of all fatalities in Texas in 2017. There were 5,975 pedestrian accidents on Texas roads last year, with 669 deaths.
