Three people were killed, and four others were injured in a fatal two-vehicle crash in northwest Harris County early Saturday, January 1, 2022.
A crash transpired at approximately 1:00 a.m. at Barkers Branch Drive and Barker Cypress Road.
Deputies were dispatched to Barkers Branch Drive and Barkers Cypress Road after a Toyota RAV4 and a Toyota Sienna minivan collided.
On impact, several passengers in the minivan were ejected from the vehicle. First responders pronounced two of the victims dead, while another was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The minivan driver and two passengers, and the RAV4 driver, the vehicle’s sole occupant, were all injured and remain hospitalized.
According to deputies, the Sienna minivan failed to yield at an intersection while attempting to turn left onto Barkers Branch Drive. The RAV4, which was driving north on Barker Cypress Road, collided with the minivan’s right rear quarter.
At the scene, the RAV4 driver showed signs of intoxication and admitted to deputies that she had been drinking.
She showed signs of intoxication while driving, but the contributing factor at the time was going to be the other vehicle until it was reconstructed to see if the RAV4 she was driving was speeding at the time, according to a deputy on the scene.
The investigation into the fatal crash is still underway. Witness statements were obtained, and deputies are attempting to acquire surveillance footage of the incident.
