Workplace Injury Statistics
Texas private employers reported a total of 177,977 non-fatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2018, the most recent year for which complete statistics are available. Nearly a third of all non-fatal accidents involved injuries that required time away from work. Nine days was the yearly average amount of time away from work.
Non-fatal injuries, however, are only one factor to consider. Texas workers were killed on the job nearly every day in 2018, resulting in an overwhelming workplace and family tragedy.
Deaths from falls, asphyxiation, and electrocution to equipment failure and heatstroke to toxic exposure and car accidents were caused by a variety of different factors. That same year, more people died at work than were killed in homicides committed in all four Texas metropolises put together (Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin).
