A female driver and her two small children were sent to the hospital after losing control of her vehicle and crashing into an 18-wheeler on SH 242 on Monday, January 24, 2022.
The two-vehicle crash occurred just after 7:00 p.m. on SH 242 near the Sommerset/Artavia Way intersection between FM 1314 and Old Houston.
The female driver in a Ford Explorer with two small children in the backseat was reportedly speeding west on SH 242.
She told the Texas Department of Public Safety that a car in front of her turned off Sommerset, causing her to break and lose control.
Her car spun out and was hit by an eastbound 18-wheeler transporting construction materials to Beaumont.
The impact point of the truck, according to DPS, was only three feet from where one of the small children was seated.
The mother and children were transported to the hospital to be evaluated in stable condition.
The truck driver was unharmed, but the 18-wheeler sustained significant damage.
The female driver received citations from the DPS for driving at an unsafe speed and not having liability insurance.
The entire incident was captured on the dashcam of the 18-wheeler.
The road was reopened at 9:30 p.m.
