[02-02-2022] Hidalgo County, TX – 22-Year-Old Man Dead in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on U.S. 281

According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Maria Montalvo, a 22-year-old Mission man identified as Jesus A. died after being hit by a vehicle in Hidalgo County on Tuesday night, February 2, 2022.

According to authorities, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred at 9:14 p.m. on U.S. 281, south of Guerra Lane and north of Edinburg.

According to the investigation, a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck was speeding northbound on US 281 and eluding Border Patrol. The driver lost control and drove into the center median, where all of the passengers jumped out.

A vehicle traveling northbound struck the pedestrian who was a passenger in the Chevrolet.

According to Montalvo, the 22-year-old man died at the scene.

The crash is being investigated by the DPS.
