Emergency workers responded to a four-vehicle incident just south of Tahoka Tuesday afternoon, March 22, 2022.
The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. on US Highway 87.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, An adjacent grass fire caused smoke that impaired visibility along the route.
Due to the smoke, the first vehicle slowed down and was subsequently rear-ended by a second vehicle. A third vehicle then collided with the second vehicle. A fourth vehicle collided with the three other vehicles after the initial collision.
According to DPS, one driver was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock, while the second driver was taken to the Tahoka hospital of the Lynn County Healthcare System. Their injuries were described as minimal by DPS.
According to a social media post by the Texas Department of Transportation in Lubbock, US Highway 87 was closed to all traffic in both directions for a time.
