A 30-year-old Longview man identified as Dustin C. died in a two-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler on State Highway 49 in Marion County early Saturday morning, January 1.
The accident happened around 3:00 a.m. on SH 49, about 10 miles northwest of Jefferson.
According to a press release, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper investigated the crash.
51-year-old Phillip C. of Cayesville, Georgia, was driving a 2022 Freightliner truck tractor with a trailer west on SH 49, according to the preliminary crash report. The 30-year-old man was driving east on the same road in a 2006 Ford Ranger at the same time.
According to the press release, the deceased driver drove on the wrong side of the road and collided with the tractor-trailer rig for an unknown reason.
The 51-year-old driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
Dustin C. was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by a justice of the peace.
Phillip C. was unharmed because he was wearing a seat belt.
37-year-old Ann R. of Cayesville, Georgia, sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to a local hospital, according to the press release. Rahe was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
