60-year-old David B. of Carthage was killed, and 38-year-old Carlos M. of Hemphill was injured following a traffic collision in Newton County’s far north end on Friday morning, January 7, 2022.
The fatal two-vehicle crash occurred just before 9:00 a.m. on Highway 87 at Recreational Road 255 in the Mayflower Community.
According to early reports, a 2004 Kenworth truck and semi-trailer were northbound on Highway 87, while a 2021 Ford pickup truck was eastbound on RR 255.
The pickup truck driver ran a stop sign and was hit by the big rig on the passenger side.
Officials declared the 60-year-old driver of the pickup truck dead at the scene.
The 38-year-old big rig driver was taken to Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill for treatment of his injuries. There are no other details available.
The crash remains under investigation.
