Three people were killed in a horrific two-vehicle crash on State Highway 71 on Monday afternoon, January 10, 2022.
According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred around 1:22 p.m. at the intersection of SH 71 and Bordovsky Road west of La Grange, Texas.
A 2017 Volvo truck-tractor towing a trailer was heading west on SH 71. Ezathullah A., 38, of Houston, was driving the rig when he entered the turning lane to turn left.
When a white Toyota Camry approached from behind, the truck and trailer were stopped in the turning lane. When the westbound Toyota entered the turning lane, it collided with the trailer’s back end.
According to the report, the Toyota caught fire and burned the three occupants beyond recognition. Two of the deceased victims are confirmed from Natchitoches Parish.
Carl T. Jr., 23, of Natchitoches, and Nicholas F., 20, of Campti, are the driver and backseat passenger, respectively, and Jordan L., 17, is the front-seat passenger.
The Department of Public Safety stated that they had not been able to identify the victims or notify their relatives.
According to DPS, the bodies are expected to be identified by the end of the week.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, and Fayette County EMS all assisted at the scene.
The crash was investigated by DPS Trooper Josh Berger.
