A toddler was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car on Westheimer in west Houston on Sunday, January 16, 2022.
The pedestrian accident occurred on an early Sunday morning in the 13800 block of Westheimer.
According to investigators, a 2-year-old boy was alone when he wandered away from his home.
He crossed all four westbound lanes of traffic before being hit by a car, according to police.
The driver came to a halt and dialed 911. He was furious when he arrived at the scene.
According to ABC13, the driver was driving to work and didn’t notice the little boy until it was too late.
The toddler was flown to a local hospital by LifeFlight, where he is in critical condition, according to police.
Sgt. Michael Hroch said the child may have wandered out of the house without anyone knowing.
The toddler’s parents had reported him missing just before he was hit, according to police.
Overnight, temperatures dropped into the 30s. It’s unclear how long the boy had been outside before being struck.
Police were questioning the boy’s family.
