An early morning house fire off of County Road 4173 in Lindale injured a homeowner and a firefighter on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
The Lindale and Red Springs fire departments responded to a call and discovered a partially burned house around 6:30 a.m. at County Road 4173 in Lindale.
According to firefighters, the homeowner allegedly smoked while connected to an oxygen tank.
Smith County Fire Marshal Jay Brooks said they had a house that was about 20% involved at the time.
The fire was started by an explosion, which was possibly caused by an oxygen tank.
The homeowner was taken to a local hospital for burn treatment.
Officials believe another oxygen tank exploded inside the building while several firefighters were inside. One of them was hit in the head by a piece of debris, resulting in a head injury.
They were taken to the hospital and given a concussion diagnosis.
