Three people identified were killed in a three-vehicle crash near Palestine on Friday afternoon, January 21, 2022.
The fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred around 2:00 p.m. on SH 19, about five miles north of Palestine.
According to a press release, the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were dispatched to the crash scene after receiving reports of a three-vehicle fatality crash.
According to the preliminary crash report, 72-year-old Cora S. of Montalba was driving a 2008 Dodge Caravan south on SH 19, and 38-year-old Tiffany S. of Montalba was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 behind the Dodge.
67-year-old Joe M. of Pearland was driving a 2021 Subaru Outback north on SH 19 at the same time.
According to the press release, the Ford attempted to pass the Dodge for an unknown reason and collided head-on with the Subaru in the northbound lane.
The 67-year-old driver and his passenger, 61-year-old Mary M. of Pearland, were taken to Palestine Regional Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced them dead. After being taken to the same hospital, the 38-year-old woman was also pronounced dead.
The 72-year-old woman was taken to Palestine Regional Hospital, as was her passenger, 72-year-old Barbara R. of Montalba.
According to the press release, they were released after being treated for non-incapacitating injuries.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
