[02-26-2022] Webb County, TX – Two People Killed in Suspected DUI Accident Near Laredo

According to state police, two residents of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, died in an alcohol-related head-on crash reported south of Laredo on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

The fatal DUI crash occurred around 3:03 a.m., about six miles south of Laredo, near mile marker 732 on US Highway 83.

The Matamoros men were identified as Erick R., 46, and Brayan Alvarez M., 25, by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to preliminary findings, a 2014 Volkswagen Beetle was driving on the wrong side of the road when it collided head-on with a 2012 Ford Explorer.

The Volkswagen driver, according to DPS, showed signs of intoxication. Due to serious injuries sustained in the crash, he was taken to Laredo Medical Center.

Moreno R., the Explorer’s driver, and Alvarez M., the Explorer’s passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third Explorer passenger was transported to LMC with minor injuries. The crash is still being investigated by DPS troopers.
