Twenty year-old Austin R. and 52-year-old Steven M. were injured after a two vehicle crash on Interstate 45 near FM 1182, early Tuesday morning.
On September 21, at 4:26 a.m., an accident took place on Interstate 45 south of FM 1182. A 2021 white F350 pickup towing a 2012 red Gooseneck trailer was traveling southbound in the left lane, according to Texas Department of Public Safety, with a 2001 silver Honda Accord following closely behind.
The pickup driver, Austin R., fell asleep, drove off the roadway, and struck the center cable barrier. The driver then drifted partially back into the left lane before coming to a halt and being struck by the Honda.
Austin of Corsicana was rushed to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Dallas with incapacitating injuries. Steven of Ennis, the Honda driver, was treated and released at the scene. The investigation is still on-going.
Car Collision Accident Statistic
Car accidents in Texas can be caused by a variety of factors, including severe weather and wet or icy roads. The vast majority of automobile accidents, on the other hand, are caused by someone’s negligence in some way. Despite the fact that Americans would then drive less in 2020 due to the pandemic, preliminary estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that 38,680 lives were lost in motor vehicle traffic crashes, the highest number of fatalities since 2007.
In comparison to the 36,096 fatalities reported in 2019, this represents a 7.2 percent increase. In Texas, 3,893 people were killed in car accidents in 2020, compared to 3,623 in 2019. That increase occurred despite traffic volumes being about 50% below normal for several months of the year, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. In the year 2021, 1,426 people died on Texas roads. According to Texas Department of Transportation officials, speed and failure to wear seat belts are major contributing factors.
Everyone hates tailgaters, but they are more than just a nuisance. In 2017, these aggressive drivers were responsible for 26,790 accidents. 114 of these collisions resulted in death. It’s especially aggravating to follow a car too closely because it’s so easy to avoid. On highways, there is plenty of room, so drivers should take advantage of it rather than trying to move traffic along by tailgating. It’s important to maintain a safe distance between cars, and doing so could help you avoid an accident.
