An 8-month-old baby was killed after falling out of a vehicle and hit by an oncoming car in Irving on Sunday, November 14, 2021.
The tragic accident happened around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of North MacArthur Boulevard and Ranchview Drive.
According to the police, a black sedan struck the 8-month-old victim after falling out of a vehicle. The sedan did not stop, but authorities believe there is a high chance that the driver did not know the infant was hit.
The infant was rushed to a hospital where, unfortunately, the child was eventually pronounced dead.
Police reports show that the victim’s mother was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, and there was at least one other child in the car.
Statistics of Fatal Car Accident Crash Involving Children
In 2019, 608 children under the age of 12 died, and more than 91,000 were injured in car accidents. Thirty-eight percent of children under the age of 12 who died in car accidents were not wearing seatbelts. Parents and caregivers can save a life on every trip by ensuring that their children are properly buckled.
Restraints are used differently depending on the age of the child. In 2019, 43 percent of children aged 8 to 12 were not buckled up, compared to 41 percent of children aged 4 to 7 and 27 percent of children aged under four.
Drunk driving puts the safety of child passengers in jeopardy. In the United States in 2019, alcohol-impaired driving was involved in 23 percent of child passenger deaths among children aged 14 and younger, with the child’s own driver being drunk 64 percent of the time.
Restraint systems for children are frequently abused. Approximately 46% of car seats and booster seats are used incorrectly, which could reduce their effectiveness.
