[11-15-2021] Refugio County, TX – Plane Crash in Copano Bay Causes Injuries to 62-Year-Old Pilot

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, one unidentified 62-year-old pilot sustained minor head injuries in a small plane crash in Copano Bay on Monday, November 15.

The crash happened on a Monday in Copano Bay, near Rockport.

The pilot attempted to land his Beechcraft Bonanza airplane when he lost both engines at approximately 1,200 feet in the air.

The pilot tried to restart the engines but failed. According to the department, the man raised his landing gear then performed a water landing.

Officials informed air traffic control that they saw the pilot standing on the wings of the aircraft that crashed, according to Navy Times.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported its tactical marine unit worked with the Aransas County Sheriff’s Deputies to rescue the pilot.
