One 83-year-old man identified as Philip M. was killed in a multi-vehicle crash near Tyler on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.
The accident happened around Wednesday noon on SH-31, nine miles east of Tyler, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers.
According to the investigators’ preliminary report, the 27-year-old driver of a 2011 Chevrolet HHR identified as Thomas C. was traveling south on CR-21 near SH-31.
Thomas C. failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and drove into the travel lanes on SH-31. A 2020 Toyota Yaris traveling westbound on SH-31 collided with the Chevrolet.
The collision pushed the 83-year-old victim’s Toyota into oncoming traffic, where an eastbound 2009 Ford F-250 hit it.
Judge Shamburger declared the victim dead at the scene. The 83-year-old victim was then taken to Lighthouse Mortuary in Tyler.
The Ford driver, identified as 32-year-old James H., was treated for injuries and released at the scene.
The Chevrolet driver was reported to be in stable condition after being transported to UT-Health East Texas.
Local authorities are still investigating the crash.
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash
In Texas, anyone can be involved in a car accident at any time. In densely populated urban areas such as Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas, numerous automobile accidents have resulted in fatalities.
Texas is the world’s largest state in terms of population and road length. It is home to some of the busiest highways in the country. In Texas, over 3,500 people have been killed, and 246,000 have been injured in traffic accidents. At this location, a fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred.
When three or more cars collide on the road, it is called a multi-vehicle accident. A “chain reaction” occurs when one vehicle collides with another, causing that vehicle to collide with the next.
