[12-04-2021] Bexar County, TX – Bicyclist Critically Injured Following a Crash With Pickup Truck on Northwest Side

One man was severely injured after a bicycle accident at an intersection on Northwest Side on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

The collision happened at about 1:28 a.m. on Bandera Road and Cincinnati Avenue.

Early reports indicated that the man was riding his bike through the intersection when he was struck by a pickup truck traveling eastbound on Bandera.

The pickup truck driver stopped and helped the victim. The bicyclist was critically injured and was transported to University Hospital.

Further investigation revealed that the driver will not be charged as he had a green light at the intersection and was not intoxicated.

Local authorities are still investigating the crash.

Bicycle Accident Statistics

Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities in Texas rose significantly in 2020 despite a decrease in overall crashes.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 731 pedestrian deaths and 82 bicycle deaths in 2020, an increase of 9 percent and 21 percent, respectively. Sixty-four pedestrian deaths and nine bicycle deaths occurred in Austin.
