According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two unidentified people were killed in a plane crash in a wooded area of west Harris County.
Although the exact date of the crash is unknown, the plane was discovered in a wooded area south of the Barker Dam, near the Katy Freeway, on Thursday afternoon.
A day after taking off from a nearby airport, wreckage from a Piper Cherokee 140 aircraft was discovered Thursday in a wooded area south of the Barker Dam near the Katy Freeway.
While it’s unclear what happened, the two male victims were discovered at the crash site, according to DPS officials.
A nearby West Houston Airport manager stated that the plane involved took off shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday and never returned.
The airport is located approximately two miles north of the crash site.
According to the manager, the plane’s transponder was malfunctioning, and airport personnel was unaware the aircraft had gone missing until the girlfriend of one of the victims notified them on Thursday.
The manager further stated the plane was found a short time later.
Fatal Airplane Crash Statistics
A convenient way to travel to long-distance locations is by flying in an airplane. Unfortunately, airplane accidents are not uncommon. One in every 11 million Americans dies in a plane crash every year. As a result, it appears that the risk is low. One-in-5,000 Americans are killed in car accidents each year, but this is significantly lower than the average American’s risk of death.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, accidents involving civilian aircraft registered in the United States fell to 1,302 in 2019 from 1,347 in 2018. More people died in civil aviation in 2018 than this year, 395 fewer than in 2019. A ship was to blame for the deaths of every single one of the 452 people who perished this year. Four of the victims were killed in a plane crash.
A crash could be caused by various factors, including a pilot error, corporate negligence, a violation of Federal Aviation Administration regulations, or a mechanical failure.
Like automakers, plane manufacturers are obligated by law to sell only safe vehicles. Injuries caused by defective planes (or defective parts of the plane) may be the responsibility of the aircraft manufacturer. If you’re liable for a product, you’re responsible for “product liability.” An individual product liability claim may only be part of a larger lawsuit.
Harris County Airplane Accident Lawyer for Victims of Fatal Airplane Crash
Different laws may apply according to where and how an airplane crash occurred. Aviation authorities, commercial airline crew members, and even passengers may be held responsible for accidents. Maintenance crews, air traffic controllers, plane owners, and parts manufacturers can all be held accountable for aviation accidents. If you’ve been injured in an airline accident, a lawyer can help you get the compensation you deserve.
Plane crashes frequently result in multiple injuries, which is something to consider. It may be beneficial for a plaintiff to join forces with other aviation accident victims when it comes to class-action lawsuits. For example, private legal counsel from an aviation lawyer may be necessary if other plaintiffs’ counsels’ decisions are ill-advised.
It is not uncommon for aviation accident cases to drag on for years, if not decades, because of the high stakes involved. It can be difficult and frustrating to figure out airline accidents’ root causes and long-term repercussions.
