According to Austin-Travis County EMS, two unidentified construction road workers were killed in southeast Austin on Friday, December 10, 2021.
The fatal accident occurred on a Friday on the interstate 35 northbound frontage road in southeast Austin.
The driver of a 2015 Porsche went off the road and hit two workers installing road signs, according to an update from Austin Police Department public information officers at noon Friday.
The workers were actively installing signs in a grassy area off the road when they were hit, according to APD, and other workers were present at the time.
Authorities stated that speed was an obvious factor in the crash. APD further reported that there’s a chance they’ll try to get a blood search warrant for the driver.
The workers were with a company hired by the Texas Department of Transportation.
According to ATCEMS, the vehicle’s driver had to be cut out and was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to local authorities, the crash happened near the frontage road’s intersection with Teri Road, and the vehicular homicide unit is still investigating.
