Two people identified as 34-year-old Kaleb H. and 28-year-old Gabriel W. were killed in a multi-vehicle collision in east Texas on Saturday, December 11, 2021.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. on SH 315 about three miles of Carthage.
A 2013 Mack truck towing a semi-trailer, a 2015 Freightliner truck towing a semi-trailer, and a 2006 Toyota Tundra are among the vehicles involved.
According to preliminary information, the Mack truck driver was traveling west on SH 315 near the intersection of CR 106, while the Freightliner driver was stopped on SH 315 waiting to turn left onto CR 106. The 34-year-old Tundra’s driver from Haughton was pulled over behind the Freightliner.
The Mack truck’s driver allegedly failed to slow down and collided with the Tundra, causing it to crash into the back of the Freightliner and catch fire.
The Tundra driver and his 28-year-old passenger, also a Haughton resident, were both killed. Officials say it’s unclear whether the fatal victims were wearing seat belts; the Freightliner’s driver was unharmed and was reportedly wearing his seat belt.
The Mack truck driver, who was wearing his seat belt at the time, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A GoFundMe account has been established for the two fathers who were killed, both of whom have wives and three young children.
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Car accidents can happen to anyone at any time in Texas. Many people have been killed in car accidents in densely populated urban areas like Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas.
Texas is the world’s most populous and largest state in terms of road length. Some of the country’s busiest highways are located here. Traffic accidents have claimed the lives of more than 3,500 people and left 246,000 others injured in Texas. At this location, a fatal multi-vehicle accident occurred.
On the highway, a multi-vehicle accident occurs when at least three vehicles collide. When two cars collide, a “chain reaction” occurs, causing the second car to crash into the first.
