One 55-year-old woman identified as Marcelina Alfaro C. was killed in a pedestrian accident in Garciasville on Saturday, December 11, 2021.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal pedestrian crash happened at about 8:26 p.m. on U.S. Highway 83 and F.M. 1430.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling west on U.S. Highway 83 when it struck a pedestrian in the travel lane.
According to officials, the driver fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian on the north side of the road west of the intersection.
In a news release, at approximately 7:48 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a white Jeep Commander occupied by one female driver and two children.
The Jeep reportedly had a defective front right headlight, damage to the front right side, and was missing the right front quarter panel.
According to the news release, it was determined the vehicle had been involved in a crash and fled the scene based on the trooper’s roadside interview. The female driver was transported to the Rio Grande Highway Patrol Office for further investigation.
The Starr County Sheriff’s Office was eventually notified of an auto-pedestrian crash on U.S. Highway 83 and F.M. 1430, where the pedestrian was unresponsive on the ground.
A 48-year-old Garciasville resident identified as Yesenia G. was later identified as the driver of the Jeep involved in the hit-and-run pedestrian collision.
The 48-year-old Jeep driver was charged with a third-degree felony, leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
