One unidentified person was killed, and another was injured following a hit-and-run crash involving two vehicles in Jefferson County on Wednesday night, December 22, 2021.
According to preliminary information, the fatal hit-and-run occurred around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Craigen Road and Highway 124. That’s in the northeast corner of the county of Hamshire.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2010 Toyota SUV was driving northeast on the highway behind a 1994 Mack dump truck. The driver of the Toyota SUV rear-ended the dump truck for unknown reasons at some point.
The dump truck driver fled the scene after the collision, but officers later discovered he was unharmed.
Medics rushed the driver of the Toyota SUV to St. Elizabeth Hospital upon their arrival, but the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
At this time, the names of the victims involved in the accident have not been released. There were no other details provided.
Local authorities are still investigating the crash.
