A two-vehicle accident in Southwest Houston claimed the lives of a child and an adult on Friday, December 24, 2021.
The fatal hit-and-run crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. in the area of 7100 block of South Gessner near Neff.
According to the initial information, authorities responded to the area receiving reports of a hit-and-run crash. Preliminary reports revealed a pickup truck was suspected of speeding when a Camry attempted to cross.
The Camry was stopped at a stop sign, and authorities suspected the driver believed they had enough time to cross. The pickup, however, plowed into the car due to its high rate of speed.
The impact threw the child, believed to be an eight or nine-year-old girl, and the driver from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead on the spot.
Witnesses saw the pickup’s driver emerge from the vehicle, looking disoriented.
According to authorities, the driver is believed to have fled the scene on foot. They’re looking for a Hispanic man between 20 and 25.
It’s possible that alcohol played a role in the accident. Local authorities are still investigating the crash.
