Statistics of Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Involving Children
Nearly 90,000 children under the age of 12 were injured in car accidents in 2019. More than a third of children under the age of 12 who died in car accidents were not buckled up.
When a child is younger, restraints are applied in a different way. In 2019, only 27% of children between the ages of 4 and 7 were not wearing seatbelts. 41% of those surveyed between the ages of 4 and 7 compared to 27% between the ages of 4 and 8 were younger.
Children’s lives are in danger when a driver is intoxicated. According to CDC data, alcohol-impaired driving contributed to 23% of all child passenger deaths in 2019, with 64% of those deaths occurring when the child’s own driver was intoxicated.
