An unidentified man was left in critical condition following a suspected DUI collision on Saturday, October 30.
The crash occurred around 2:52 a.m. at the intersection of Jones Maltsberger and Thousand Oaks. The police said a man was driving south on Jones Maltsberger when he hit the victim, driving west on Thousand Oaks.
Officers reported the victim was gravely injured and immediately rushed to University Hospital. A third vehicle was struck while it was stopped near the northbound turn lane of Jones Maltsberger. The driver of the third car was reportedly uninjured.
The suspect was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated and is facing a charge of intoxication assault. Local authorities are still investigating the crash.
DUI Crash Accident Statistics
In 2019, 812 people were killed in Texas DUI crashes, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. It goes without saying that drinking and driving is inconvenient. Other people may suffer serious injury or death as a result of intoxicated drivers. Your family and job may suffer even if no one is hurt in the collision or if you are arrested for DUI.
Because the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision, the suspect bears full responsibility for the accident. One of the most reckless and dangerous things a driver can do is drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Drunk drivers put themselves and others in danger. Texas and the United States have made significant progress in the fight against drunk driving, but much more work needs to be done across the country to significantly reduce the number of DUI-related deaths. Each year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 10,000 people are killed as a result of drunk drivers.
