An unidentified 29-year-old woman was killed while two others were hurt after a two-vehicle crash at Ross Avenue on Friday night, September 17.
The deadly crash happened on southbound Interstate 345 at Rossa Avenue at approximately 10:50 p.m. A Jeep Patriot SUV rear-ended a FedEx semi-truck on the interstate under unclear circumstances. The Jeep Patriot sustained major front-end damage due to the severity of the impact.
Three women inside the SUV were rushed to an area hospital. Unfortunately, one of the occupants inside the SUV later succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, authorities later determined that the SUV driver was under the influence at the time of the accident.
The driver was identified as 21-year-old Aspin LaShawn J. She is now facing DUI-related charges. Information about the accident is limited at the moment. Local authorities are further investigating the case.
Fatal Two-Vehicle DUI Crash Statistics
In 2019, 439,388 motor vehicle crashes occurred in Texas, injuring 256,338 people. There have been 12,897 serious injury accidents, leading to 15,843 deaths. In this case, there was a rear-end crash. A rear-end accident occurs when a vehicle immediately collides with the car in front of it. As the leading driver usually cannot avoid a collision, a rear-end accident is often (but not always) the driver’s fault at the rear position.
A DUI driver caused the rear-end crash in this accident. By law, all drivers must use “due care in the circumstances.” The activities of somebody are considered negligent if they are not cautious. Neglect drivers could be either drugged or intoxicated, endangering your life.
Any fatality or injury caused by a drunk driver could have been avoided. Unfortunately, drunk driving incidents are still widespread across the country. Drunk driving accidents claimed 10,497 lives in 2016, representing 28% of all traffic deaths in the US.

After losing a loved one from a deadly car accident, the victim’s family is encouraged to take a wrongful death claim with the assistance of their lawyer.
