One person was killed after a fatal rear-end crash involving a parked big rig in the Deer Park area on early Tuesday morning, August 10.
According to the initial reports from local authorities, the crash occurred along with State 225 in the Deer Park area. An 18-wheeler was reportedly parked at the side of the SH-225 feeder road at approximately midnight. The driver was waiting to deliver the rebar he was hauling and went into the truck’s cabin to sleep.
The 18-wheeler’s hazards light was on. However, as the truck driver was sleeping, he suddenly felt something struck the back of his vehicle at around 3:00 a.m. The big rig driver then exited his truck and saw that a black Infinity sedan rear-ended his vehicle.
The truck driver claims that he saw a Hispanic man, possibly in his 30’s to ’40s, not breathing in his vehicle. The Hispanic man was reportedly wearing a work shirt at the time of the accident, possibly heading to work before the crash. It’s unclear what caused the sedan driver to crash into the 18-wheeler.
The rebar in the big rig went through the sedan’s windshield and impaled the sedan driver. Unfortunately, the sedan driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The big rig driver remained at the scene and willingly cooperated with local authorities. He was uninjured from the mishap. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed. An investigation of the accident is currently underway.
Fatal Rear-End Big Rig Crash
When one car collides with the back of another, a read-end accident occurs. Rear-end collisions can result in life-threatening injuries. Whiplash is a painful ailment produced by the abrupt strain of the neck when it snaps like a whip in response to the collision. Whiplash is generally self-resolving with rest and modest pain relievers.
Unfortunately, not everyone can survive a rear-end crash. According to a National Highway Transportation Safety Administration survey, rear-end collisions are the most common type of traffic collision. Rear-end collisions account for around 29 percent of all car accidents.
Every year, over 1.7 million rear-end crashes occur in the United States. Approximately 1,700 individuals are killed, and another 500,000 are injured in these approximately 2 million incidents. In this case, a big rig was involved. Big rig accidents are caused by various factors like loss of control of the truck, a tire blowout, a disabling or non-disabling vehicle failure, excessive speed, lane drifting, improper truck maneuvering, and driver fatigue.
