Houston Police Department reported one unidentified woman died on the Katy Freeway while helping her friend in the backseat on October 24, Sunday.
The event happened around 3:00 a.m. in the inbound lanes of the freeway between Kirkwood and N. Dairy Ashford.
According to Houston Police Department Sgt. David Rose, the woman, was ejected from the vehicle after an approaching car rear-ended the victim’s vehicle while checking on her sick passenger.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sick passenger was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital. No reports have been stated yet whether she is being treated for injuries or about her current condition.
Local authorities say that a second passenger in the victim’s vehicle was uninjured. The identities of the victim and passengers have yet to be disclosed.
The driver who struck the woman’s vehicle admitted to drinking prior to the collision and could possibly be charged with intoxication manslaughter, according to Sgt. Rose.
The identity of the other driver states it was a man, but no further details about the identity have been reported. The crash remains under investigation as no charges have been filed yet against the other driver.
