An 11-year-old boy was killed while two others were injured after a major two-vehicle collision on IH-30 on September 17.
The fatal accident transpired at approximately 7:45 a.m. on the south service road of IH 30, six miles west of Sulphur Springs. A 2015 Ford F750 garbage truck was stopped in the eastbound lanes when an eastbound 2007 Toyota Camry rear-ended the Ford garbage truck.
The Ford garbage truck reportedly had its flashing caution light activated at the time of the crash. The Toyota driver failed to control its speed for unclear reasons, which caused the crash to occur. The Toyota driver, identified as 34-year-old Angeles Vicente H., was rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Meanwhile, his 11-year-old passenger was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. Another juvenile passenger inside the Toyota was seriously injured in the mishap and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The Ford driver was uninjured in the mishap. He remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The Department of Publis Safety is further investigating the cause of the accident.
