Two people were killed after a fatal wrong-way crash involving multiple vehicles in southwest Houston on Sunday morning, September 12.
The deadly accident transpired at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Southwest Freeway near West Bellfort. A northbound vehicle reportedly traveled on the southbound lanes for unclear reasons and was then clipped by an oncoming 18-wheeler.
Due to the severity of the impact, the 18-wheeler lost control, veered off the freeway, then plunged over a barrier wall, and landed on the feeder road below before catching on fire. Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash.
Both the wrong-way driver and the operator of the 18-wheeler were killed in the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed. The southbound main lanes of the Southwest Freeway were closed down for several hours to give way for the investigation and cleanup. The case is currently under further investigation.
