Four people were injured as a result of a multi-vehicle collision in Conroe on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
The crash happened around 7:00 p.m. on FM 1314 south of Texas 242 across from the Thunder Gun Range. A Jeep’s driver was northbound on FM 1314 when he crossed the center line and smashed a Kia Soul headed traveling south, causing it to flip into the ditch, according to witnesses.
Montgomery County Police say the Jeep then went between a southbound Ford Edge and a Toyota Forerunner, landing on top of the Forerunner after going airborne upon striking it.
The female Toyota driver trapped in the SUV sustained internal injuries, leg fractures and had to be rescued by firefighters. An uninjured infant had to be removed in a car seat in the Toyota’s back seat as well.
Spokesman Sergeant Erik B. from the Texas Department of Public Safety stated the Toyota driver is in serious condition at the hospital. The driver of the Ford Edge and the Kia Soul driver were both hospitalized and in stable condition, according to police reports. The Kia driver was also brought to The Woodlands Hospital.
According to reports, the 61-year-old Jeep driver was ejected and had gone missing, and witnesses said he left the scene. The Jeep’s sunroof was also found broken with pieces scattered several hundred feet down the road. Firefighters with the Caney Creek and Porter fire departments searched the woods as DPS troopers assumed the man had not fled on foot since the Jeep’s roof was open and all of the vehicle’s doors were jammed.
The Jeep driver was eventually found alive after three hours of searching as he was spotted by the DPS helicopter’s crew lying alongside water around 200 yards into the woods. He was rushed to Memorial Hermann, The Woodlands, and was reportedly in stable condition. The accident still remains under investigation.
