A 39-year-old man identified as Joe G. Jr. was killed after a fatal two-vehicle collision on FM 666 on Sunday night, August 29.
According to the initial reports from authorities, the deadly collision transpired at approximately 10:07 p.m. on FM 666. A Chevrolet Suburban and a Ford F-250 were both heading south on FM 666 when the F-250 driver slowed down in an attempt to turn to a private location.
Unfortunately, the Chevvy driver failed to control their speed and rear-ended the F-250 as a result. The Ford F-250 driver was killed in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, his passenger was rushed to Driscoll Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Suburban driver and his passenger also sustained unspecified injuries in the mishap.
They were both taken to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christ for treatment. Information about the accident is limited at the moment. Local authorities are further investigating the case.
Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Statistics
The number of people killed or injured in car accidents in the United States has risen dramatically in recent years. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), an estimated 38,000 people died in car accidents in the United States in 2019. In 2019, there were 439,388 motor vehicle crashes in Texas, with 256,338 people injured. There were 12,897 serious injury crashes, resulting in the deaths of 15,843 people.
Texas has the highest number of road fatalities in the country. Every 71 seconds, a car accident occurs on Texas highways. Every 2.5 hours, someone dies in a Texas car accident, and someone is seriously injured every two minutes. In this case, a rear-end crash occurred. A rear-end accident occurs when one vehicle collides with the car immediately in front of it. Because the leading driver cannot usually prevent the collision, a rear-end accident is often (but not always) the fault of the rear position driver.
