Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrians have been involved in a significant number of traffic-related deaths over the last three decades. But why is this the case? It’s mainly because pedestrians are more vulnerable to traffic-related injuries and fatalities than occupants of enclosed vehicles. After all, they have no protection in the event of an accident.
Every year, more than 130,000 pedestrians who are hit by a car end up in emergency rooms or urgent care facilities, according to the CDC. Unsurprisingly, a large number of these mishaps (roughly 6,000 each year) result in death. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 656 pedestrian fatalities and 1,831 pedestrian injury accidents in 2019.
Drivers who are reckless, careless, or negligent put pedestrians in danger. Because there is no barrier between wayfarers and cars, pedestrian accidents are more likely to be fatal. Depending on the accident’s severity, people may sustain minor to severe injuries, fractures, or even fatal injuries.
Travis County Wrongful Death Attorney for Victims of Fatal Pedestrian Accidents
Accidents can be a traumatizing experience for anyone involved. While it’s natural to feel overwhelmed following a catastrophic accident, retaining the services of an experienced attorney is critical to obtaining a favorable outcome in your case. Following a fatal pedestrian accident, the victim’s family must file a wrongful death claim immediately.
Texas allows victims to file claims for up to two years. If you miss the deadline, you will be unable to receive compensation for the damages caused by the accident. A wrongful death claim entitles the victim’s family to financial compensation for losses such as lost wages, funeral costs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
