[08-22-2021] Dallas County, TX – Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Getting Struck by a Hit-and-Run Driver in Deep Ellum

One unidentified man was seriously injured after a hit-and-run driver crashed into a pickup truck and a pedestrian in Deep Ellum on early Sunday morning, August 22.

The major accident took place in the 2600 block of Elm Street in Deep Ellum at approximately 1:30 a.m. The suspect was reportedly driving a pickup truck erratically at high speeds. He then crashed into another car but continued driving. The suspect then hit a pedestrian and a police horse.

The suspect failed to stop to render aid and drover away from the scene. Local authorities later apprehended him. The hit-and-run driver was identified as 25-year-old Adonis H. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries from the mishap. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is currently in critical condition.

The two other people inside the vehicle and the police horse were uninjured in the crash. The hit-and-run driver was arrested for charges related to intoxication, assault with a vehicle, possession of marijuana, accident involving serious bodily injury, damage to the vehicle, and a traffic violation. Local authorities are further investigating the case.

According to a AAA press release, hit-and-run deaths have reached an all-time high. Texas has the nation’s ninth-highest rate of hit-and-run accidents. In 2016, there were 2,049 fatalities due to hit-and-run accidents, a record high and a 60% rise from 2009. There are several reasons why hit-and-run drivers flee the scene.
